Steppin' Across America Foundation (SAAF) is a 501(c)3 non profit organization founded in 2008 to improve the quality of life for youths and their families.
We provide community outreach services through seminars, publications, workshops, special events and activities that are geared towards improving communal relationships, wellness, economic stability, and addressing social issues.
We also offer arts-in-education programs designed to equip our youth with confidence, self-esteem, respect, and determination so that they can achieve the goals that they have set for themselves and become invaluable assets to our global community. And we do it through STEPPIN'...more specifically, Chicago Steppin', a social dance.
With the increased mainstream media attention Chicago Steppin' has garnered over the last 10 years in movies, magazines, television, radio, music, videos, and the Internet, the steppin' bug has caught a tailwind out of the windy city spawning flourishing and newly developing steppin' communities from coast to coast. Chicago Steppin' shows no signs of slowing down or passing as dust in the wind.
Chicago Steppin' with its mass popularity, can be seen as the rebirth of couple social dancing within the African-American community, romancing with music, positive male-female interaction, and relief from the negative connotations degrading women in some of today's music and music videos.
While Chicago Steppin' is an African-American dance art form, it is enjoyed by all ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds, and it encourages unity through music and dance. Chicago Steppin' is a family affair. A community. A lifestyle. A culture! It's passed down from generation to generation, and therefore, SAAF is engaging the youth and our communities at-large through our new programs.
